Year-End Hiring: Why You Should Keep Your Job Search Going

Blog image - We are hiring

Although you may not realize it, the end of the year can be a pretty good time to start looking for a new job. While some people may lead you to believe you should wait until the new year has arrived, the exact opposite is true, particularly in the Allied Health industry. This industry is looking for qualified staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

In fact, it is not uncommon for Allied Health job seekers to secure a new job at the end of the year which others may miss out on simply due to their misguided idea that employers aren’t actively looking to fill vacant positions. Many employers are anxious to get their end of the year hiring objectives met so they can not only head out on vacation, but also be lined up to start the new year off right.

Even if you don’t get hired before year-end, putting your hat in the mix towards the end of the year can help give you a leg up on the competition when the new year starts. It might help lower your stress level and ease your financial worries as well. Think about it. Wouldn’t it be much nicer to head into the holidays knowing you have a new job (or at least lined-up job interviews) come January?

Hiring Managers Have Positions They Need Filled

HR staff and hiring managers do have positions they need filled. Companies have hiring goals which they want met each year. If those goals have not been achieved by December, hiring managers will often feel pressure to get open slots filled before the year is over. It doesn’t matter whether the holidays are upon us. These positions need to be filled. So…resumes need to be reviewed, interviews must be done, and offers will have to be made. Even if a new hire isn’t scheduled to start working until after New Year’s, companies want to know they’re off to a strong start.

Waiting until after the holidays to submit your resume could mean you miss out on what might have been your ideal job. Golden opportunities don’t always come along. When one does, it’s important you act quick or it might pass you right on by.

Streamlined Holiday Hiring (Not Just for Seasonal Workers)

Streamlined holiday hiring processes are not just for seasonal workers anymore. As the holidays approach, you’ll find many employers and hiring managers in the Allied Health and Dental industries will be streamlining their hiring processes. What might have taken a few weeks at another time of year could be wrapped up in a matter of hours or days during the holiday season.

It’s not that hiring policies become lax at this time of year. It is simply employers want to get open slots filled and, with the holidays approaching, they have a limited amount of time to do so. Really, it is a win-win situation. The company gets their position filled with a qualified employee and you get the job you need and want.

Fewer Resumes Being Submitted Means Better Odds in Your Favor

Another reason you’ll want to keep your job search going at this time of year is companies may be seeing fewer resumes and job applicants. Let’s face it, fewer resumes means better odds in your favor. As long as you are qualified for the position and it seems like a good fit, to both you and the employer, there’s no reason you couldn’t get the job secured right now.

Attitude Can Help Overcome Any Perceived Obstacles

Attitude is everything when conducting a job search. Without a positive attitude, you’ll probably feel like seemingly insurmountable obstacles keep getting in your way. Remaining positive can help you overcome any perceived obstacles to accomplish the goals you’ve laid out.

You shouldn’t try to set unrealistic goals, of course. Find out what positions are available, then, whether hiring staff are accepting resumes and conducting interviews between now and the end of the year. If so, submit your resume now and try to get your foot in the door. If not, arrange to get yourself an interview at their earliest possible convenience. No reason you can’t nail down your next career move before the end of the year.
