HIREnews | what's going on.

Did you know close to 40% of job applicants feel having to wait between 1-2 weeks for a company to make a hiring decision is far too long? Another 24% consider a 2-3 week decision-making process completely excessive and unnecessary. By this point, many job applicants have lost interest and gone elsewhere looking for work.

Why Quick Decision-Making Is Key During the Hiring Process
When it comes to the hiring process, speed is of the essence. While you might feel the need to take your time when considering different candidates or wait to see if someone "better" will come along, the truth is the longer you wait the higher the chances are your ideal applicant will have already accepted another offer.

One of the Biggest Mistakes You Can Make During a Hiring Interview
One of the biggest mistakes hiring managers and others often make during an interview with a potential candidate is failing to gather all the information they need to make a decision.

When you have an individual in front of you, who meets your qualifications and seems to be a good fit, take the opportunity to find out everything you need to know. What are the person's plans? Is he or she able to start right away? How much money do they want to be making? Answers to all of these questions (and more) are essential. Without this information, you will have no idea as to whether or not you have found a true match. Once you have this information, a decision should be easy. So, take the time to do a thorough interview, build a positive relationship with the applicant, and get the information you need while he or she is right in front you. This will make the hiring process much simplier.

A placement success story.
"Mya, Thank you for your assistance. We offered her the job and she accepted! We are very excited to add her to our team. I wanted to again thank you for all of your help. Hiring can be somewhat of a nightmare, but you made it much easier for Nikki and me. You are one of the few recruiters that actually listened to what we wanted and what we needed in an employee. Being a small business owner and located in a rural setting, our needs are very different from those in a suburb/city setting."

How to Gain a Competitive Advantage.
Companies who want to gain a competitive advantage pride themselves in a streamlined hiring process. Slows in hiring can have a negative impact on productivity and revenue. By acting quickly to secure a highly-qualifed applicant, a company gives itself a competitive advantage. A decisive hiring manager and rapid hiring process increase a company's chances of hiring well-qualified applicants, save time and money, as well as aid in developing your reputation and brand.
Why Longer Interviews Are Better.
While some interviewers claim they only need a few minutes to determine whether a job applicant will be a good match, a longer interview has its advantages. Applicants are often nervous when going to a job interview. Taking the time to establish communication and break down any concious or subconcious filters the applicant has put up, can give the applicant an opportunity to truly demonstrate why he or she would be a good addition to the company. Longer interviews will also allow you to gather more of the information you need for the decision-making process.
